This particular unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to test optical communication systems and components in the field using portable test instruments.
It covers testing of point-to-point networks as well as next generation optical fibre networks which use passive optical network (PON) technologies in fibre to the home (FTTH) deployment.

No prior qualifications, with exception to already having attained an Open Cabling License is required.

(FIBRE TWO) INSTALL, TEST & TERMINATE OPTICAL FIBRE CABLE ON CUSTOMER PREMISES

Course duration: 1 - 2 days

Cost: To be determined on whether the student is eligible for Registered Prior Learning (RPL), or whether further experience or training is required.

Fibre Two describes the skills and knowledge required to install, test and terminate optical fibre cable on customer premises for communications applications using a range of terminations that may include direct termination, fusion splicing and mechanical splicing.

It applies to technical staff who place, secure and terminate optical fibre cable in new installations and upgrades or maintain existing networks in domestic, commercial and industrial installations. 

No prior qualifications, with exception to already having attained an Open Cabling License is required.
